Ochendo Comprehensive Free Medical Outreach - A Success Story (PHOTOS)

For the past 12 days the people of Awka North and South have been at the receiving end of a comprehensive free medical exercise, made possible by Chief Godson Ezenagu, Ochendo ndi Igbo.

Yesterday, the journey that began at St Stephen Anglican Church, Mgbakwu, on 12th May, 2018, ended at the Health Centre, Umuokpu.

In a bid to ensure many are attended in the last day of the exercise, the medical team led by, Dr Emmanuel Nwosu, first started at Umuogbu, Agulu Awka from 8am, then move to Ezi-ibi, Amikwo, around 11am, before rounding up at the Health Centre in Umuokpu.

Announcing their presence to patients and observers at the Umuokpu Health Centre, Dr Emmanuel Nwosu, of Mercy Hour Foundation, said the gesture is in fulfillment of Chief Ezenagu's vision to help the needy and the most vulnerable in Awka North and South.

He reminded the people that the programme is to support those who are in need of medical help in all the communities that made up the constituency regardless of any political inclinations.

Addressing newsmen, Ochendo stated that the people of his immediate constituency need to live in sound health no matter the economic turmoil pervading the land.

“Many people know they have one ailment or the other but due to lack of finance, they choose to keep the state of their health the same way while I consider this to be too dangerous to their health. So, I decided to shoulder this as part of my token to the people of my constituency and the state at large".

A total of about 2500 beneficiaries were recorded for the duration of the outreach with focus primarily on screening and treatment of high blood pressure, malaria, diabetes, hepatitis B and C, arthritis, fastening blood sugar, typhoid, body mass index screening, and vitamin deficiencies.

Several beneficiaries from Awka North and South who spoke to our correspondents lauded the gesture of Chief Godson Ezenagu, saying that it was a good way of giving back to the society.
