NOA Asks NUJ To Tackle Excesses On Social Media

The State Director , National Orientation Agency (NOA), Barrister Charles Nwoji has enjoined members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, to embark on massive campaign to checkmate the excesses of the Social Media in the society.

Barrister Nwoji, who was speaking in his office, while playing host to the state Executive members of the Union led by the Chairman of the Council, Comrade Emma Ifesinachi, who paid him courtesy call, charged the union to work towards entrenching sanity in the social media industry.

The NOA Director, said that the Agency has in recent times, held several conferences for bloggers as one of the measures aimed at introducing a code of conduct for the social media practitioners and the bloggers so as to ensure objective reportage of issues and events.

He extolled Governor Willie Obiano’s goodwill for recognizing journalists in the state as the frontline defenders of democratic governance by mapping out huge amount of money for the payment of arrears of person and gratuity owned the journalists under the employ of the state government.

Earlier, the Chairman of NUJ in the state, Comrade Ifesinachi condoled the Agency on the death of two of its Senior Staff, late Chief JohnMary Nweke and Barrister Leonard Akaolisa, adding that NUJ was fully represented during the funeral rites of JohnMary Nweke, promising to repeat same at the burial ceremony of Barrister Akaolisa.

Comrade Ifesinachi , who observed that NUJ and NOA share similar functions of communicating government developmental policies , programmes and activities to the people , maintained that the union is always ready to partner NOA, especially in the area of mobilizing and sensitizing the populace on forthcoming general elections in the country .

The NUJ Chairman , who briefed the NOA Director on the arrangements made so far by the union towards making its 2018 Media Summit a huge success, said that the summit was aimed at assessing the performance of the political representatives as well as recognizing some credible personalities in the society who have distinguished themselves in their various fields of endeavour.

He added that Governor Obiano will be made the Grand Patron of NUJ during the occasion.
