Mmiata -Anam -Nzam Road Project, Obiano Reiterates Early Completion

Governor Willie Obiano has reiterated the commitment of his administration to properly fund the construction of the ten point two kilo meter Mmiata-Anam- Nzam road and bridge to ensure its speedy completion.

The Governor was speaking when he inspected work on a bridge along the road.

The one hundred and twenty meter bridge which has 6 spans of 20 meters each was designed in 2008 but had to be redesigned after the 2012 flood due to the high water level observed.

During the inspection visit, it was observed that piling work was ongoing on the bridge with filling having been achieved on eight kilometer stretch on the road.

Speaking after the inspection, Governor Obiano explained that the surprise visit was to see for himself what the contractor has done with the money released to him and expressed satisfaction with what he saw on site.

The Governor who noted that the project marks the first ever road leading to the Agrarian communities of Mmiata Anam and Nzam, said with the assurance of the contractor, a sizeable portion of the road will be completed before August this year.

He noted that the project is in line with the vision of his administration to create access to communities with positive prospects for Agriculture, adding that he will continue to release funds to ensure that it is completed according to plan.

The project manager of the Contracting Firm handling the project, Mr. John Nasir revealed that with the support of the Governor and inputs of Engineers from the Ministry of Road Infrastructure, Furniture and Maintenance, they have completed the redesigning of the bridge and the road to accommodate the flood usually experienced in the area and promised that they will work hard to deliver on time.

On his part, a stakeholder in the area, Chief Onyedika Chinwuba, said the bridge is the most strategic in Anambra West as it connects the Anam-speaking area of Ifite-Anam with all the Igala speaking areas and thanked Governor Obiano for showing genuine commitment towards constructing the road.
