Emeka Igwe Brought Succour To Over 3000 Residents, As 5 Days Free Medical Outreach Came To An End

No fewer than 3000 residents of Awka South 1, benefitted from the 5 days free medical outreach, sponsored by Engr Emeka Igwe, powered by TeamVIE, and in partnership with the Anambra State Government, Rotary Club Njikoka and other prominent health NGO’s.

The 5 days exercise which was declared open on the 25th of April at Obodo Ezi in Umuogbu, with subsequent appearances in Ayom Okpala, Ndi Ichie Hall, and Okpuno Town Hall, finally came to a magnificent close on 29th April, at Umuokpu, Awka.
Igwe, responding to journalists at the end of the exercise, said  that the gesture was aimed at impacting positively on the lives of the less privileged.

“It is my own way of repaying the favour I received in 2015 when I had an accident that almost claimed my life and was offered free medical services by an unknown woman.

“The outreach also focused on creating awareness on the benefit of proper hygiene, best practices in health management and the need for routine check-up,” he said.

According to him, he had organized similar exercise in 2016 and 2017 in Obiakpo Local Government Area of Rivers.

He went on to say that Awka was chosen for this year exercise, following Gov. Willie Obiano’s visit to River State,  to solicit support and investment from ndi Anambra  in the state.

Igwe, who said he planned to increase the number of beneficiaries by 2019, noted that the next outreach would include surgery.

Dr Chukwuka Onwubuiko, head of the medical team, explained that diabetes, arthritis and waist pain were prevalent among the people.

“The programme focused primarily on screening and treatment of high blood pressure, malaria, diabetes, hepatitis B and C, arthritis, fastening blood sugar, typhoid, body mass index screening, and vitamin deficiencies.

“Dental and optical services were also offered to the people by physicians.

“Basically, the team offered advice on the best daily practices which the people should adopt for healthier living,” he said.

Speaking during the outreach, Hon. Ifeatu Obijieme, the honourable commissioner for Finance, said he was very happy when Emeka Igwe told him about outreach, because, according to him, anything that is done on a philanthropic basis.

“He is not doing it because he expects something from the ordinary citizen. He did this for people who can’t afford medical care for themselves”.

“And as you can see many people are very happy , I heard them making comment like; ‘I am already healed because someone has looked at me and check my body system’, he revealed.

Hon. Obijieme, who is also from Umuokpu, expressed satisfaction that Igwe is adding to the community efforts, being done to ensure that the citizens have a better lives.

He urged other ndi Anambra to follow the footsteps of Emeka Igwe and appeal to them to hearken to the Aku Luo Uno message of Governor Willie Obiano, to come and invest in a more secured environment.

In the same vein, Hon. Prince Obinna Ndigwe, from Umuayom, another great philanthropist, complimented the statement of the Commissioner, when he said that the Free Medical Outreach, was one project that really helped the masses.

“I am glad Emeka Igwe decided to do this with the intention of helping the less privileged, old men and women. That is what people in higher position should be doing but many are not doing it and that’s what he decided to do” he enthused.

Prince Ndigwe, patron of the State Youth Council, frowned at the attitude of most representatives, who care less about people in their constituents.

“We have those that represent us but yet they’ve not gone this far in meeting the basic needs of our people and that is what they should be doing because they represent us”.

Prince Ndigwe, also call on other philanthropists to engage in doing some good for the society.

“Emeka Igwe is not the the richest man but he did something that was beneficial to the society , therefore I am indulging those who have the wherewithal to engage in such philanthropic act, because this will really help the society and will reap more blessing” he concluded.

On her own part, Mrs Sarah Ihedinma Egbetade, Assistant Manager, Diamond Bank, Awka Expressway, applauded the project, saying it was laudable and another way of giving back to the society.

“We are actually here, on behalf of the bank, to give our support to our customer and we see that this is a laudable project, a Community Services Responsibility”.

“We’ve witnessed massive turn out and what I’ve seen today is incredible and the team of medical experts is just excellent. We really commend Igwe and we are also in support of him in the sense that we want other philanthropist to give back to the society” she said.

Mrs Sarah encouraged others who has the wherewithal to follow in the footsteps of Emeka Igwe because that is the essence of living, and that in doing that posterity will remember them.
