Anambra Govt Warns Against Blocking Of Access Roads, Water Channels

Individuals or developers who are in the habit of blocking access roads or drainage channels with their structures now risk prosecution by the state government.

The General Manager Anambra State Physical Planning Board , Mr. Victor Okpoko, gave the warning during an inspection to open up an already existing access Road at Akabor- Edorji in Uruagu Nnewi.

Mr. Okpoko who explained that in line with Governor Willie Obiano’s vision to give Ndi Anambra good road networks as well as make the state first choice investment destination in Africa, stated that construction of roads is part of measures that will attract investors and make the citizenry access their homes freely .

He disclosed that roads are like veins in the body without which the blood ceases to flow and wondered why some developers choose to block access roads to after series of warnings urging them to desist from such acts.

He seized the opportunity to also warn some developers at Eze- Ogidi Road opposite Swiss park and suites Uruagu, Nnewi, another at Okpouno Eze and the developer opposite Saint Thomas Anglican Church Otolo, Nnewi who are building without building plans to go to the nearest local government area, submit their –plan and obtain approval or risk prosecution .

Reacting to the exercise , a resident, Mr. Christopher Okoye , expressed satisfaction with the opening up of the access road which was blocked for years and thanked the state government and the Physical Planning Board for their kind gesture .

The Board seized some of the working tools of the developers during the inspections.
