Anambra Govt Moves To Reposition Markets

Market Leaders and traders in the state have been advised to always adhere to the government's directives on economic activities to promote peace and enhanced development.

The state Commissioner Ministry of Industry, Trade and Commerce, Dr. Christian Madubuko, gave the advice during his tour of some markets in Onitsha.

The tour which aimed at ensuring peace and harmony in the markets, was kicked off at Ochanja market where the Commissioner tried settling issues between the market leaders and the traders, through to Ose market, Aruna street, and number 27 Aruna street by Sokoto road where he ordered for the immediate stop of work on a four storey building under construction, and removal of illegal structures around the area which restricts easy flow of traffic, and was terminated at Bridge Head market.

Doctor Madubuko, who frowned at some practices and behaviours of some market leaders and traders especially those that threaten the peace of the markets, charged them to always be their brother's keepers, and to support the developmental strides of the present administration by paying their levies and dues regularly and on time.

In a remark, the Transition Committee Chairman for Onitsha South, Mr. Emeka Asoanya, thanked the Commissioner for his visit and friendly disposition so far, and assured him that he alongside other Commitee members will accord him all necessary support to ensure he actualizes his vision and plans in the sector.

On his part, the Chairman Bridge Head market, Mr. Sunday Obinze, expressed happiness on the Commissioner's visit to the area which he noted was the first of its kind, promising on behalf of traders in the market to continue to support the government through regular payment of their dues.

Contributing, a former Vice Chairman of the Bridge Head market, Mr. Samuel Emeka, said he foresaw brighter days for traders in the state under the Commissioner's leadership and prayed for God's protection on him and wished him a successful tenure.
