Day 1 Of Emeka Igwe’s Free Medical Outreach In Awka, Dubbed As Successful (PHOTOS)


               


Thousands of residents turned up at Obodo Ezi in Umuogbu Awka,  during the early hours of yesterday, to take advantage of the free medical outreach provided by Engr Emeka Igwe,  powered by TeamVIE, in collaboration with the Anambra State Government.

The program brought the people of the community both young and old together. It also drew the attention of some Non-governmental, voluntary organization who participated in the program.

The outreach which commenced at 9am, saw a team of doctors complemented with the assistance of medical personnel, conducting a series of primary healthcare services, inclusive of eye testing, dental assessment, screening for hypertension and diabetes, among other common illnesses.

Declaring the 5 days event open, the State Chairman of the 3rd largest party in Nigeria, APGA, Sir Norbert Obi, expressed delight in being a part of such an initiative while marveling at the arrays of drugs and sophisticated medical equipments on display, all to be assessed free. 

Despite his tight schedule, Sir Norbert said Engr Emeka Igwe is one personality he can’t turn down because since he knew him he has always been someone who involves himself in things that benefited the society and that the free medical outreach is one of those things.

The initiator of the program, Engr Emeka Igwe while given his address disclosed the reason behind it. Engr Igwe said having listened to His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano, in Portharcourt addressed ndi Anambra  with businesses outside  Anambra  with his Aku Luo Uno message, he decided to come down to contribute is quota to the development of his state.

“I have been providing humanitarian aids like this outside the state, in River state and other place but governor made myself and many others have a rethink, to bring our investment, ideas home and contribute our own quotas” he enthused.

“This is a free medical outreach, one of the many more things we intend to pursue, to elevate the plight of our people”. 

“We’re offering, eye testing, dental checking, diabetes screening, blood pressure checks, asthma evaluation and general medical checkups”.

Finally, Igwe said he’s very optimistic to continue collaborating with State Government and the public health ministry to have the programme executed on a regular basis, so as to continue assisting  persons who cannot afford medical care.

Speaking at the event, one of the political dinosaur of Anambra politics, Hon. Benjamin Chinedu Obidigwe emphasized the importance in selfless service to God and humanity.  The anointed aspirant, who is set to represent the good people of Anambra East and West at Federal House of Representative in 2019, affirm that God gives wealth and with that one is expected like Emeka Igwe to bring God’s love to the poor, Widows, indigent youths and vulnerable children in our society.

Narrating his first encounter with Engr Igwe, he said, "From the first day I met you, I knew we have something in common, which is to help and do good for the people. I know you are capable and worthy Emeka Igwe, to represent your people".

"You are my choice and from what am seeing you are the choice of Ndi Awka South Constituency 1"

The presence of the Hon. Commissioner of Health, Dr Joe Akabuike, at the venue of the outreach, adds colour to an outing was dubbed as a success.

Dr Akabuike, showered encomium on the organisers, led by the sole financier Engr Emeka, for showing concern towards the health needs of the people.

Dr Akabuike showed round the ground, was impressed by the level of professionalism shown by the medical experts and the quality of treatments administered to the people.

His words, “We are here today by God’s grace. Emeka Igwe and his team has done wonderfully well. What they do here with the outreach is to help those who couldn’t afford to go to the hospital for medical tests and to create awareness about the importance and benefit of regular medical checkups”.

While the primary objective of the outreach is to offer medical support, counselling services are available to persons in need, as to ensure the mental well-being of individuals. In addition, free eye-wears, treated mosquito nets, drugs etc, were made available for qualifying patients.

Beneficiaries of the exercise expressed their gratitude and deemed the programme a success in light of costly health care in the country.

Some personalities that graced the occasion, in no particular order, includes:  Prince Obinna Ndigwe, Chief Obi Ochije (Ochije Foundation); Chief Okey Nwaokike;  Hon. Amb. Jude Agummadu (Baby Awka); APGA, Awka South Chairman, Bar. Udoba; Rtn Ifeanyi Aniagoh, President Rotary Club Njikoka; Chief Gabriel Igwe, Oso Chinemeze (Father of Emeka Igwe); Mrs Sarah, Assistant Manager, Diamond Bank, Awka Branch; Mrs Ify Enekwechi, SSA on Special Education; Lady Chinyere Ibenta, APGA State Woman Leader; and others.  

The Five-day event which was open to the public yesterday morning, commence today at Ayom Okpala Field. Other places designated for program are; Ndi Ichie Hall, Okpuno Hall and Umuokpu Secondary School, which take place on 27, 28, 29th respectively, from 6am – 6pm.
