21 Days Ultimatum Issued To Owner Of Illegal Firearms To Surrender - Anambra Police Command

Individuals , groups like vigilante, neghbourhood watch group, town Unions hunters, night watch men among many others, in possession of all categories of illegal fire arms have been given twenty one days to surrender them to the Commissioner of Police.

The State Commissioner of Police Mr. Garba Umar made the call at the Police Headquarters Awambia .

Groups or associations under any capacity or guise other than statutory security agencies recognized and gazatted by the Federal Government of Nigeria in all the twenty one local government areas of the state currently in possession or using prohibited and illegal fire arms for whatever purpose who fail to submit theirs, according to the Commissioner of police, if found shall be arrested investigated and prosecuted.

The Police Commissioner sought the cooperation and support of all law abiding citizens in the enforcement of the directive .

Mr. Umar said that to ensure an effective mop up exercise the command has set up a nine man committee to be chaired by ACP Baba Maiyaki.

He counted some categories of fire arms affected in the mop up to include artillery , Rocket weapons ,bomb and grenades, revolvers and pistols , pump action and any other firearm or lethal weapon fabricated to kill.

He stated that the mop up operation is aimed at the full enforcement of the Fire Arms act 2004 which has not been repealed.
