Anambra Commences Measles Vaccination March 8

Parents and guardians with children between the ages of nine months and five years, have been advised to avail them the opportunity of the free immunization exercise slated for the eight of next month.

The Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Chioma Ezenyimulu, gave the advice when she visited the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Mr Uche Nworah, in his office in Awka in company of some members of the State's healthcare services.

Dr Ezenyimulu, who described Measles as a highly infectious disease which could terminate child's life if not immunized, called on parents to disregard any anti immunization rumors, and present their children for the vaccination which she said is free and safe.

She disclosed that the first batch of the vaccination campaign will commence with the Anambra Central Senatorial District and part of Anambra North Senatorial District from the eighth to thirteenth March, while the second batch will take off from the fifteenth to twentieth of the same month, with Anambra North, as well as Idemili North and South.

Dr Ezenyimulu, stated that the eligible children for the immunization will be vaccinated through injection irrespective of their previous immunization status.

Contributing, the State Coordinator of the World Health Organization, Dr Wilfred Onuorah, while commending the ABS for partnering the group in the sensitization exercise, assured that the WHO will continue to synergize the Obiano government in ensuring improved health of the citizenry.

Dr Onuorah, made it clear that Measles is a very dangerous illness that can kill or deform a child, urging parents and guardians to take the vaccination exercise seriously , and noted that denying a child the opportunity of being immunized is an infringement on the child's right.

Responding, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the ABS, Mr Nworah, assured the group that the ABS will continue to sensitize the public on the importance of child's immunization.
