Anambra Govt Empowers Youths To Take Up Commercial Agriculture

The State government says it is targeting a huge commercialization of the Agricultural sector through the empowerment of the youths.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanization, Processing and Export, Mr. Afam Mbanefo, stated this at the tenth Anniversary of the Dorcas Foundation International, a Non -Governmental Organization that focuses on the empowerment of the less privileged in the society.

The Agriculture Commissioner revealed that the Ministry's plan in the agro business sector is to engage more youths this 2018 to see agriculture from a business perspective, noting that it has provided more platforms to help these youths be part of the transformation in the sector.

Some of the innovations being made to engender easy access, according to the Agriculture Commissioner, include providing more clusters and aiding the farmers in the process and development of sustainable business plans. Commissioner Mbanefo further revealed that more efforts is being put in place to ensure a full cycle Dry Season farming in the State.

Speaking on the importance of empowering the less privileged to be self reliant, the Founder and Coordinator of Dorcas Foundation, Reverend Mrs Nkechi Ogudo-Mbanugo, said that alongside helping the downtrodden to find solace through the word of God, it is good for them to engage themselves in meaningful sources of livelihood as now being provided by the Ministry of Agriculture.
