Anambra Guber: INEC Reassures On Free And Fair Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it is committed to conducting a credible governorship election on the eighteenth of November in the state.

The State Resident Electoral Commissioner , Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, gave the assurance at the Election Management System implementers workshop for the governorship election in Awka.

Dr Orji explained that Election Management Systems is a critical tool which the commission is using to ensure that the election will not only be successful but will also be free, fair and acceptable.

He revealed that after the workshop, the commission will go into human and material deployment to all the local government areas across the State.

Dr Orji informed the gathering that INEC has distributed sixty- four thousand voter cards out of the registered two hundred thousand it has collected for the election, while the card reader are now working effectively with the procurement of additional three hundred batteries that replaced the bad ones.

He added that the training of Electoral Officers, Assistant Electoral officers and security agencies will soon commence as all the logistics required for the election have been put in place.

In a speech, the Project Director, European Center for Electoral support, Mr. David Notre, explained that the Election Management workshop which was funded by the European Union is an effective tool INEC needed to effectively manage field assets, resources, constituencies and chains of electoral activities during elections.

On his part, the Chief Technical Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Professor Bolade Enyila, charged the participants who will also be INEC field officers during the November eighteenth governorship election to report information on the Election Management System dashboard while in the field as it will enable INEC to monitor critical areas of intervention.

The Director, Planning and Management, of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mr Okey Ndeche enjoined the participants to make good use of the workshop.
