Obiano Reassures On Power Shift To South After Second Tenure


Governor Willie Obiano says he is committed to ensuring that power returns to Anambra South Senatorial District after completing his eight-year tenure.

The Governor was speaking when he received stakeholders from Uga Community in Anambra Council Area who paid him a solidarity visit at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia.

Governor Obiano who described the zoning initiative as advocated by Ohaneze Ndigbo and other interest groups as the best for the state, said the arrangement will ensure that no zone is marginalised in the leadership of the state.

He said his government has a comprehensive agenda that will guarantee improvement on the people's standard of living, adding that it is important that the people understand that everything his administration had achieved was only in three and half years, in a period of economic meltdown.

While urging Ndi Uga to continue to support his administration, Governor Obiano assured them that his second term will witness increased life-changing programmes and policies for them.

The Member representing Aguata One constituency in the State Assembly, Dr Ikechukwu Umeh who is from the community, said the visit was to express their solidarity with the Obiano administration and to convey their willingness to support his second term bid.

The Commissioner for Road Construction, Road Furniture and Maintenance, Mr Law Chinwuba revealed that two roads in the community namely Amesi-Otikpo road and Uga-Nkpologwu road have been designed and are already at the tenders board for award, assuring that work will commence on them very soon.

On his part, the Commissioner for Power and Domestic Water Development, Mr Obi Nwankwo noted that streetlights in the community will soon be inaugurated as the infrastructure have been installed, while work is ongoing on rehabilitating the water projects in the area, adding that soon, transformers will be distributed to parts of the community.

Also speaking, the President General of the Town, Mr Ben Unaka thanked the Governor for his benevolence towards the community, especially as it concerns appointing people of the community into government position, recognition of their traditional ruler and infrastructural development in the community.

In a vote of thanks, the Commissioner for Environment and Beautification, Engr. Romanus Ejikeme said Ndi Uga have every reason to support Governor Obiano as his administration has given them sense of belonging.
