Obiano Presents 18 Seater Bus To Otu Subakwa Igbo

The State government has presented an 18-seater bus to Otu Subakwa Igbo.

The presentation was made during a brief ceremony at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia

While presenting the bus, Governor Obiano explained that it was in fulfillment of an earlier promise he made to the organization, to support their efforts at promoting the teaching and learning of Igbo language.

He recalled that on its part, his government has taken strategic steps that have given impetus to the campaign which include setting aside every Wednesday for traditional attire and use of Igbo language for communication in schools across the state, payment of additional incentive to Igbo language teachers, sponsorship of Igbo cultural events, among others.

The Governor, who stressed the need for all stakeholders in the Igbo cause to intensify the campaign to save Igbo language from extinction, commended the group for their efforts and assured them that his government will continue to support them in its second term as the state's resources permit.

Responding, the founder of the Pan-Igbo Organization, Professor Pita Ejiofor, acknowledged that of all the challenges facing the Igbo nation, the easiest to address is the extinction threat on Igbo language, adding that what it requires is genuine commitment on the part of the people towards the cause.

He thanked Governor Obiano for keeping to his promise to continue to assist the organization and promised that the vehicle will be put to effective use.

The key to the bus, courtesy of the Governor, was handed over to the group by the Anglican Bishop of Afikpo Diocese, the Right Reverend Paul Udogu after prayers.
