Immediate Work To Commence On Abba-Ifitedubu-Umunya Road Project


The Re-construction of Abba-Ifitedunu-Umunya road project will commence in the next two weeks.

Governor Willie Obiano announced this at the palace of the traditional ruler of Umunya, Igwe Chris Onyekwuluje, during his 2017 annual new yam festival.

The event was attended by traditional rulers from the state and beyond, government functionaries, Ndi Ichie, Ndi Ojiana, Nze na Ozo, Umunya Development Union, as well as friends and well wishers.

Governor Obiano in his speech also announced that work would soon commence along Nteje-Umunya axis of the Enugu -Onitsha express way to reduce the hardship experienced by Ndi Anambra as a result of the deplorable condition of the road.

He expressed happiness that Umunya community has completed their own twenty million naira community choose-your-project-initiative with the successful completion of a civic center and urged them to apply for the next batch of the project which he assured will continue till the end of his eight years tenure.

Receiving the Governor, Igwe Onyekwuluje while performing the kolanut ritual commended the Governor for commencing and completing the Ojobi-Umuobi-Ogbunike –Umunya Road and for other road projects which are in progress in the community.

Igwe Onyekwuluje who led in a unanimous decision with his subjects to return the Governor for the second term, maintained that it is good to support the good works of the Governor so that the state would not plunge backwards again, and prayed for the peace, unity, growth and development of his community and the state at large.

Earlier, the Transition Committee Chairman for Oyi Council Area, Mr. Uche Okafor, assured that people of the council area are in full support of the governor as according to him, no vote will be lost on the November 18th gubernatorial election.

On his part, the State Chairman of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, Chief Damian Okeke-ogene, thanked the church, especially for recognizing the difference between traditions and barbaric acts saying that culture and traditions are gradually taking their places in the affairs of Ndi Igbo.

The oldest man in the community, Chief Ikwuja Onyekomelu who is one hundred and eighteen years old, used the occasion to pray for the Governor asking God to grant him success in the election.

The event featured masquerade dances, cultural dance and music display as well as paying of homage to Igwe Onyekwuluje by his subjects and other guests.
