How My Administration Empowers Women - Obiano


Governor Willie Obiano says some strategic steps taken by his administration under the Agric pillar and the health enabler has helped address some key challenges facing women in the State.

Governor Obiano stated this when he received a delegation from an NGO, Model Women International, who paid him a solidarity visit at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia.

Governor Obiano revealed that the scaling up of the State's Primary Healthcare arrangement and the accreditation of health institutions across the state by his administration, had resulted in the drastic reduction of infant and maternal mortality rate in the state.

He recalled that last year, 60 percent of the total 2.5 billion naira distributed by the State Small Business Agency went to women, adding that this year, a total of 2 billion naira has been earmarked for disbursement to women alone in the agriculture and business areas.

The Governor who further noted that women are well represented in the composition of his cabinet, expressed appreciation to the organization for their solidarity and willingness to support his second term bid.

According to him, it is his objective to utilize the second term to consolidate on the numerous achievements which his administration has made in its first term and Women will be major beneficiaries.

Earlier, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mrs Rita Maduagwu who is the Patroness of the Organization, acknowledged that under the first three and half years of the Obiano administration, women have received their due attention.

The Patron of the organization, Mr Raymond Nwokike who described Governor Obiano as a great policy formulator who goes ahead to effectively implement them, said the manner he has carefully managed the state meagre resources to meet the people's needs is highly commendable.

In a vote of thanks, the Coordinator of the Organization, Mrs Ifeyinwa Onwukwe who spoke of how the Obiano administration has given women a sense of belonging in the State, promised that they will work assiduously through their grassroot network to mobilize women to vote for the Governor come November 18th this year.

The Governor was later presented with an artwork by the group in recognition of his laudable women empowerment programmes.
