Anambra Commences Registration Of Unemployed Youths Today

Registration of unemployed youths across the twenty-one local government areas of the state will commence today.

Governor Willie Obiano disclosed this during a Eucharistic Mass to mark the forthcoming fifty-seventh Independence Anniversary of the Nigerian Nation at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in Awka.

Governor Obiano, who noted that the registration will be carried out based on academic qualifications, said the exercise is to assist government plan effectively for the welfare of youths and provide sustainable means of livelihood for them.

According to the Governor, funds for the initiative have been captured into the State 2018 appropriation bill and the implementation will commence immediately the budget is passed by the State House of Assembly.

Governor Obiano, who noted that Nigeria is presently at a difficult situation owing to the numerous challenges facing it, commended the people of Anambra State for remaining law abiding especially in the face of agitations.

He said that this year's celebration is an opportunity to reflect on the challenges the nation is facing with a view to securing a fair deal for all its constituting parts.

Earlier in a homily, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, attributed the agitations in the country to years of injustice, marginalization and corruption which Nigeria has experienced, and called for fervent prayers for God's intervention to salvage the seeming hopeless situation in the country.

Special prayers were at the event said for the peace and progress of the nation and the development of the State.

The Mass was well-attended by dignitaries including a former Vice-president, Dr Alex Ekwueme, former Governor, Dame Virgie Etiaba, former Deputy-Governor Emeka Sibeudu, top government functionaries, Service Commanders among others.
