Anambra Assembly Passes State Polytechnic Law


The State House of Assembly has passed a bill for a law to establish the Anambra State Polytechnic Mgbakwu.

The Executive bill was passed during yesterdays plenary in Awka.

The bill gives a nod to the Anambra State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu to enable it carry out its full responsibility, like other Polytechnics across the country.

According to the bill, the Polytechnic shall provide full time or part-time courses of instruction and training in technology, applied sciences, commerce and management and other fields of applied learning and research relevant to the needs of the development of Anambra State, Nigeria, among others.

It makes provision for the establishment of the Polytechnic’s Governing Council, its function, recruitment of staff of the institution and appointment of the Polytechnic’s management.

Commenting on the bill, the Chairman, House Committee on information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Kingsley Iruba, explained that now the bill has been passed, Anambra State can now boast of a Polytechnic of its own.

The majority leader, Mr Victor Okoye, added that as soon as Governor Willie Obiano assents to the bill, the Institution will start functioning like a Polytechnic.

The Speaker, Barrister Rita Maduagwu who described the bill as apt read out the resolution of the House.
