Anambra Assembly Inspects FADAMA Agricultural Projects In Awka North Council Area


Farmers have been advised to take full advantage of all intervention programmes attracted by the Obiano administration in the Agricultural sector to develop and stabilize their farming activities.

The Chairman, House committee on Agriculture, Mr. Somtochukwu Udeze gave the advice during the inspection of projects and facilities executed for farmers in Awka North Local Government Area by FADAMA Three Additional Financing and Value Chain Development Programme, IFAD Assisted.

The team on arrival at Amanuke, inspected some rice farms, aggregation center, rice mill, and the ongoing construction of access road that is seriously threatened by erosion among other projects.

Commenting on the projects and facilities, Mr. Udeze who expressed satisfaction with what they saw on ground and the testimonies from beneficiaries, described the visit as rewarding.

He explained that the inspection was aimed at ascertaining the degree of implementation of the government cash counterpart contribution for farmers, and identify areas of more assistance from the government.

In a remark, the State Project Coordinator, FADAMA Three Additional Financing, Mr.Chuka Egbue who explained that all the projects and facilities are demand-driven, assured of the completion of the access road as soon as the rain stops.

On his part, the State Programme Coordinator, Value Chain Development Programme IFAD Assisted, Mr. Nnamdi Agwuncha, assured that with the supports coming from the intervention programmes and total compliance to the best agronomic practices in modern farming, the State farmers can achieve food sufficiency and surplus for export.

In their separate speeches, some of the farmers, Mr. Hyacinth Okafor, the chairman Ogbuodudu Amanuke cluster and Mr. Chukwuemeka Okolo of Ezu Amanuke cooperative group, assured of their unalloyed support for the second term bid of Governor Willie Obiano.
