Anambra Assembly Calls For Proper Identification Of Commercial Motorcyclists

The State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging the Executive Arm of Government to direct the Ministry of Roads, Rail and Water Transportation to commence the process of identifying all commercial motorcycle operators in the state so as to properly monitor and regulate their activities.

The House passed the resolution following a motion sponsored by the member representing Onitsha North Two constituency, Mr Edward Ibuzo during yesterdays plenary in Awka.

Sponsoring the motion, Mr Ibuzor emphasized that giving Commercial motorcycle operators proper identification would help to identify genuine ones .

In their contributions, the Majority Leader, Chief Victor Okoye, the Chief Whip, Chief Lawrence Ezeudu and the member representing Orumba North constituency, Mr Romanus Obi called on motorcyclist unions in the state to design uniforms for its members for their own benefit in the event of casualty.

The member representing Awka North constituency, Prince Boniface Okonkwo also spoke in favour of the motion.

The Speaker Barrister Rita Maduagwu who described the motion as a welcome development read out the resolution of the House.

Supporting motion for adjournment, the member representing Ayamelum constituency, Mr Uchenna Okafor commended Governor Willie Obiano for providing an enabling environment that ensured peaceful conduct of primary elections by various political parties for the forthcoming Governorship election in the State.

On his part, the minority leader, Mr. Onyebuchi Ofor appealed to the Executive Arm of Government to rehabilitate the Jerome Udorji Road in Ekwusigo Local Government Area.
