ANAMBRA 2017: Vote Of The Electorate Must Be Allowed To Count – Victor Umeh

It is APGA desire that all political party that will take part in the November 18 Guber election will imbibe the highest degree of decorum in the campaign.

Addressing the press, Chief Umeh announced that the campaign will officially start on Oct. 2, 2017 at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, Anambra State.

He assured that the party campaign will be issue based and called on other political parties to tow the same line, ensuring a peaceful campaign which will hopeful culminate to a successful election.

Speaking on the relevance and the important role INEC is expected to play, the DG said, “INEC should as a matter of importance ensure that this election will be in accord with all conventions in the conduct of democratic election”.

“The vote of the electorate must be allowed to count in determining who will be declared the winner of the forthcoming guber election. This is a major ingredient for this election to be successful. INEC is majorly responsible for the conduct of this election”.

He stressed that INEC must resist the temptation of being partisan, saying that the success or rather failure of the forthcoming election lies on its shoulder.

“As someone who has participated in many elections, both within the state and outside, I know if INEC is determined to be evenhanded and impartial, the election will be largely successful”, he enthused.

On the conduct of the security agencies that will be charged with the responsibility of ensuring that the election takes place under peaceful atmosphere, Sir Umeh, pleads with them to be up and doing in protecting the electorate from any perceived intimidation and harassment. He noted that Anambra being the safest state in Nigeria, was not just a mere feat and therefore urges the security agencies to compliment the security haven ndi Anambra are witnessing today.

The former National Chairman of APGA also faulted the statement credited to APC National Chairman, Chief Odigie Oyegun on the   forthcoming   Anambra governorship   election, advising   politicians to stop making inflammatory statements that were capable of heating the polity.

The APC National Chairman was quoted as boasting that his party must take over Anambra State in the November 18 poll.

Umeh noted that such a statement was capable of heating the polity, calling on the people of   the state to be vigilant and prepare against any evil plot that would aim to subvert their decision on the poll.

Umeh said, “This is not a civilized language. It is not a democratic language and we don’t want to go into the election with such inflammatory language and that statement by Oyegun was an intimidating language.

“On our part, we are going into the election with Obiano’s achievements in the three years and six months he has been governor and going by what APGA has done in the past 11 years in Anambra State”.

“Some people have been jumping from place to place saying that Obiano has not done anything and we have chronicled all his achievements. I want to assert without any fear of contradiction that this government has discharged its duties diligently.”
