The thirty-eightieth Inaugural Lecture of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has been marked with emphasis on Health Education as a master key to healthy living.

The lecture, held at the Institution’s auditorium in Awka, exposed participants drawn from within and outside the Institution, to tips on maintaining a healthy living, as it was aimed at raising public awareness on application of preventive measures to diseases than curative.

The Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Joseph Ahaneku, in his opening remarks said the inaugural lecture is one of the means through which the university recognizes excellence and sells the intellectual knowledge to the public with a view to improving the total well being of humanity.

In his lecture on the theme "Health Education: The Master Key to Healthy Living" the Inaugural lecturer, Professor Anthony Ogbalu, while stressing the importance of self discipline in maintaining healthy living, charged the participants to avoid living in dirty environment, too much intake of alcohol and smoking, among others, which he said are threats to human health.

Professor Ogbalu advised people to eat fruits and vegetables, and to always exercise their bodies to keep them strong and healthy, even as he recommended seven to nine hours sleep a day.

Regretting that most people contract diseases as a result of their obliviousness of the preventive measures, Professor Ogbalu, called on government at all levels to train more health educators/ instructors that would help in enlightening the masses on health related issues, and as well make more policies that promote good health of the citizenry.
