Nigeria: ACD Gets Female Candidate for Anambra Governorship

The Advanced Congress of Democrats (ACD) yesterday elected a female as its candidate for the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State.

Oby Kate Okafor was declared winner by the National Youth Leader of the party, Sam George Okpara, who was charged with the responsibility of conducting the primary.

The confirmation, which was done through a 'yes' vote, was conducted at the party's secretariat, in Awka, in the presence of security operatives and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

With her emergence, Okafor becomes the first female governorship candidate from all the political parties that would take part in the election.

In her acceptance speech, Okafor said she decided to contest because the male folk had failed to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

She expressed appreciation to the party for the trust reposed in her, and pledged that she would not disappoint it
