Igwe Emeka Cautions Youths Against Illicit Drugs And Intoxicants

The traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Ben Emeka, has called on the youths to abstain from illicit drugs and intake of excess alcohol to prevent the danger it can cause for them and for the society.

Igwe Emeka who made the call during ABS phone-in programme "NDLEA AND YOU"  said that most of the youths now see drugs and intake of excess alcohol as their hobby thereby endangering their life.

While pointing out some of the various ways he has embarked on fight against illicit drugs in his community, Igwe Emeka also appealed to everyone to see it as a collective responsibility and report drug issues to the NDLEA for proper handling of the situation.

The Principal Staff Officer Drug Demand Reduction Unit, Mrs Chinwe Thompson, also present in the programme appealed for listeners’ cooperation by giving NDLEA necessary information its needs ,noting that every information brought to them is confidential and will be treated as such.                          
She also said that the aim of sensitization programmes in churches and schools among others, is to counsel drug addicts as well as equip them with skills that will help them stop drugs, and adviced parents to always listen and check the affairs of their children, to guard them against drug addiction.            
Some of the callers Izunna and Honourable Akpokue expressed their appreciation for the programme and advised people to denounce drugs, using the incident that happened at Ozubulu as an example on the danger of drugs.
