Anambra State Govt Trains 250 Youths In Modern Agricultural Practices

The State government has trained two hundred and fifty youths in agricultural mechanization, green house technology, irrigation and agrochemicals applications and usage.

Declaring open the training sponsored by a private firm in collaboration with the State Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanization, Processing and Export and Anambra State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Afam Mbanefo stated that the state government is encouraging the youths to key into agriculture because it is profitable and yields more money than every other profession.

The Commissioner further stated that the state government is building relationships with corporate organizations to empower the youths and enable them reach the desired heights in agriculture.

Presenting the training programme outline, the Country Manager/CEO of the firm, Anti Ricvonen, stated that the company is committed to educating their customers on modern agricultural practices.

He said that the partnership the company is building with Anambra State government will be very beneficial to farmers and would promote agricultural activities in the state as the youths will be trained on tractorization of farmland, green house and irrigation technology as well as the application of agrochemicals for increased productivity.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Comrade Leonard Imoka, said that the training programme is in line with Governor Obiano’s vision to make the State an investment haven and one of the top agricultural states in the Federation.

He enjoined the participants, drawn from the twenty-one Local Government Areas and Anambra State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu, to take the training seriously in order to step down what they learnt to other youths.

The Chairman of Board of Anambra State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu, Professor Chukwuemeka Omaliko, had said that the training partnership would encourage youths in the state to key into the agricultural development initiative of the state government, adding that Anambra Polytechnic has been adequately empowered to provide middle level manpower needed for driving the agricultural ventures.
