Anambra Speaker Enjoins Ndigbo To Protect Cultural Heritage

The Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly, Barrister Rita Maduagwu, says the legislature will continue to make laws that will promote the rich cultural heritage of the people.

Speaking during the 2017 New yam festival of the Traditional Prime Minister of Neni in Anaocha Local Government Area, Chief Anthony Enukeme at the Umudioka Arts and Cultural Centre, Barrister Maduagwu who described culture as people’s way of life and identity, called on Ndigbo to avoid acts capable of making their rich cultural heritage to wane.

The State number one lawmaker who canvassed for compulsory teaching of Igbo language and culture in schools and colleges also advised parents of Igbo extraction to learn how to discuss with their children in Igbo language, to enable them be at home with their mother tongue.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, who said that Governor Willie Obiano has restored public confidence in governance, through people oriented programmes and policies, called on eligible voters in the State, to ensure that they obtain their Permanent Voter cards, in order to participate in the November eighteenth gubernatorial election.

She described APGA as party for the progressives, calling on the people to take full ownership of the Nation’s electoral processes.

In a remark, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Victor Oye, described New yam festival as one of the most important ceremonies in Igboland.

Chief Oye, while thanking Chief Enukeme for his support to the Obiano administration, called on Ndigbo to take full ownership of APGA to become relevant in the Nation’s polity.

The APGA National Chairman, who listed effective security of lives and property, prompt payment of worker’s salaries and pension, improved agriculture, qualitative education among others, as some of the areas where Governor Willie Obiano has performed creditably called on the people to ensure his re-election come November eighteenth, gubernatorial election for continuity.

Responding, the traditional Prime Minister of Neni, Chief Enukeme promised that the people of Neni, will ensure the realization of the second term bid of Governor Obiano.

Others who spoke at the event were the Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Matters, Mr Ejike Okechukwu and his Grassroot Mobilization and Enlightenment counterpart, Sir Anthony Ugorji, pledged the commitment of the Obiano administration to improving the living standards of the people.
