ANAMBRA GUBER: Gov Obiano Clinched APGA Ticket, Retained Deputy As Running Mate

With a total yes vote of 1070 out of a possible 1092, Gov. Obiano of Anambra State yesterday at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka,  emerged flagbearer of APGA party during its Special State Congress/Primary election.

Delegates which comprise both statutory and wards delegates were earlier accredited at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka. Three (3) delegates each were chosen from the three hundred and twenty six (3)26 wards that made up the state given a total of nine hundred and seventy-eight (978) from the wards and 119 statutory delegates.

Declaring the voting process open, Alhaji Abdulahi Shinkafi, the chairman of the electoral panel, read out the electoral laws authenticating the party primary while at the same time introducing INEC officials both from Abuja and the State offices, who were present to monitor and observe as the electoral law stipulates.

Gov Obiano emerged winner after a peaceful and orderly voting by all the delegates present and issued a certificate of return by the electoral panel chairman.

In acceptance speech, Obiano highlighted the journey so far, given account of his stewardship. The governor who thanked the people for putting their faith on me, promised to continue to work in their interest. “I shall continue to make you proud. I will do what I know how to do best and that is to work willingly”

“At this time four years ago we came with a clear vision and mission on what we want to achieve, we have been faithful to our promises and today our dear state is better for it. Willie has worked willingly”.

His Excellency called yesterday victory the “first stage of match to victory for the continuity”, saying several hurdles need to be crossed and encouraged all to work assiduously to ensure success of the party in the November election.

Closing his speech, he announced his desire to continue keeping faith with his deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke and therefore declared him as his running mate in the forthcoming election.

Also present were the former National Chairman of the Party, Chief Victor Umeh who was recently inaugurated as the Director General of as well as the former National Secretary of the party, Alhaji Sanni Shinkafi, who is also the Chairman, APGA Primary Election Panel.

Former National chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh, who is also the DG, Gov Obiano's Re-election Campaign, called on Ndi Anambra while addressing the press to the support the party which has brought meaningful development to the state.  He said the Governor who has consolidated on the achievements of his predecessor and taken the state to greater heights, needs vote of the people.

He assured the people of APGA’s determination to carry out thorough grassroot mobilization hinged on adequate information dissemination on the laudable achievements of Obiano’s administration.

Also in attendance were Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke; Hon Dozie Nwankwo, Federal House Member; Rtn Hon Rita Mmaduagwu, Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly; Members, APGA Board of Trustees; Members, National and State Working Committees; Members, Anambra State of Assembly; and major stakeholders.
