Anambra Govt Alerts Farmers On NIMET Prediction Of Heavy Rain Fall


The State Government has alerted the general public especially farmers and other stakeholders in the agricultural sector on the expectations from the 2017 seasonal rainfall predictions made by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency NIMET.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanization, Processing and Export, Mr Afam Mbanefo, stated that NIMET predicts that heavy rainfall would come towards the concluding period of rainy season while very high temperature with relative high humidity, would be experienced immediately after the rains.

Mr Mbanefo further stated that the outcome of the predictions are that there is the possibility of flood towards the end of the rainy season and a high rate of diseases that are associated with high temperature, after the rains.

The Commissioner called on those who are residing or engaging in farming activities in flood prone areas, to build catchment pits, flood ponds, drainage ditches and dykes to prevent flood hazards.

He also advised livestock farmers to ensure that they provide adequate ventilated farm buildings to guard against heat stress and good sanitation to check disease breeding.
