FG Promises More Interventions To Anambra Rice Farmers

The Fifth Federal Government/IFAD Supervision Mission to the State, has applauded the state co-ordination office of the Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP) IFAD
assisted for assisting farmers to improve agronomic practice in agriculture.

The Team which visited seed rice multiplication centre in Anaku, Udoka Processing Group and Nnedimma Parboiling Women Group Omor, Owusi and Opetepe feeder roads, also inspected developed land and rice farm at Ifite-Ogwari, Eziafakaego and Oganiru cassava groups Umueri among others.

Unavailing their observations, the team leader, Dr. Oyesola Oyebanji, testified that the field work opened their eyes on the IFAD policies that are perfectly working and those that need to be refined for optimum results.

Dr. Oyebanji who said the policy earlier captured group farming noted that there is need to refine the policy to accommodate allocation of plots to individual members from the group farm for full ownership and better management.

He explained that they will also include in their redesigning work, provision of walk ways during land clearing and development for easy movement and effective performance of farm activities by farmers.

The State Programme Coordinator, Value Chain Development Programme IFAD assisted, Mr. Nnamdi Agwuncha, who expressed profound joy over the total compliance to the best agronomic practices by VCDP farmers, assured them that their needs and challenges will be addressed.

On arrival at the seed multiplication farm Anaku, the owner of the farm, Mrs. Ngozi Ebuo, who credited her success story to VCDP, said her forty-nine weeks course at International Institute for Tropical Agriculture in Ibadan on seed multiplication, through the State VCDP, has automatically changed their orthodox method of farming to modern method thereby making farming more interesting, lucrative and enjoyable.
