Anambra To Partner US Company On Ginger Production And Export

The State government is to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a United States of American company Griffin Gamma for the off- take of ginger.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Agric Export, Mr. Nnamdi Onukwuba announced this while addressing farmers at a forum, organized by the office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Farm Development Programme and Cooperative farmers Empowerment at the Conference Hall of the ADP in Awka.

Mr. Onukwuba explained that Griffin Gamma will initially finance the sourcing of the seedlings, that is ginger rhizome, train farmers and provide logistics for the inspection of the farm.

On State government’s contribution, Mr. Onukwuba said that the State will provide twenty to twenty-five hectares of land and tractorize same.

Also speaking the Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Farm Development Programme and Cooperative Farmers Empowerment, Mrs. Theresa Okoye enjoined the farmers to vote massively for Governor Obiano on the November eighteenth gubernatorial election as his re-election will upscale their farming activities.

Mrs. Okoye who assured them of continued support from government, advised them to be focused, determined and contribute their quota towards achieving the state's Agriculture blueprint.

Some of the farmers, Engr. Michael Ezeugo from Akiliozuzu in Ogbaru council area and Mrs. Benice Mmaduka from Ogbunike, Oyi council area, in their separate speeches, said they gathered under Community Farm Development Programme and Cooperative Empowerment to fashion out modalities on how to break even in their farming activities, while appealing for trainings, identified lack of funds as their major challenge.
