Anambra Seeks Stronger Collaboration With UN Agencies

The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu has called for more interventions by the United Nations’ Agencies in the state.

Speaking when he played host to UNICEF and Minister of Budget and National Planning Monitoring Team on key intervention project in the state, Professor Chukwulobelu noted that only three out of fifteen agencies of the organization are presently working in the state.

He said the state is ready to expand collaboration with development partners and would provide necessary logistics to enhance the operation including land for their office accommodation.

The Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget Development Mr. Mark Okoye while welcoming the monitoring team which included Mr. Yinka Akin who is the UN team leader, Femi Adeyemi and Dr. Faniran from the office of the Minister of Budget and National Planning said Anambra state in tandem with Governor Willie Obiano vision is in a hurry to develop and that the relationship between the state and its partners is a healthy and has brought a lot of positive results.

Mr. Yinka Akin while  deliberating with Ministries, Department and Agencies including UNICEF state consultants said the essence of the visit was to evaluate on the result achieved, challenges faced and to discover new ways of doing things better.

The team later drove to Aguata council area to tour some intervention projects which included water project at Agbako Awarasi Uga, Ononaku Isioji and General hospital at Umuchu.

The team showed satisfaction with the impact of the projects except at Agbako Awarasi Uga were mechanical and human induced faults were observed which Victor Ezekwuo Programme Manger UNICEF said will be resolved soonest with the people while the team also made reference to some logistics challenges.
