Anambra CP Orders Investigation Into Onitsha Disturbance That Claimed 5 Lives.


State Police Commissioner, Mr. Garba Umar has ordered full-scale investigation into last Thursday’s incident that left five persons dead in Onitsha.

In a statement endorsed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Nkiru Nwode, Commissioner Umar warned people against taking laws into their hands.

The statement said thirteen persons have been arrested while a police raffle snatched from a slain police officer recovered from one Paul Igwe, a resident of Okpoko suburb of Onitsha.

It would be recalled that five persons were confirmed dead in Onitsha Thursday, following an auto crash and protest by some youths.

A Police Sergeant, Uchenna Ezike, a yet to be identified woman and three other children were confirmed dead by doctors at Toronto Hospital, Onitsha.

A statement from the Police Headquarters Awka, said crisis erupted when a lorry lost control at Mobile Check Point, along Kilometre 4/6 Onitsha Owerri Road, and killed a woman and three children.

The statement said the rampaging youths attacked the Police check point, killing Sergeant Ezike in the process and snatching his AK 47 Riffle, just as four Police vehicles were burnt by same group.
