Obiano Charges Christians To Promote Peace And Moral Values


It was a moment of jubilation as Nnewi Anglican diocese appreciate God during a thanksgiving service to mark the success of the First Session of the Eight Synod of the Diocese.

The thanksgiving service took place at St Andrews Diocesan Church Center, Nnewi, venue of the Synod .

The Synod affords the church the opportunity to take stock of the activities of the church in the past year, look into the affairs of the state and nation, and proffer solutions through a workable document produced at the end of the synod.

The Eight Synod of Nnewi Diocese was attended by delegates from all the churches in the diocese, top government functionaries who accompanied Governor Willie Obiano to the event, members of Knight and their ladies, as well as other members of laity in the diocese.

Addressing the synod, Governor Obiano represented by his Deputy Dr Nkem Okeke who said that the theme of the synod "peace, be still" is apt asked individuals to use moral conduct to depict the peace in their individual lives.

Governor Obiano underscored the importance of peace in governance and government which explained was the major reason why he is making Anambra the best in terns of investment friendliness by creating adequate security for business to thrive.

The Governor added that apart form achieving good security network, he has ensured food security through total overhaul of agricultural sector of the state and is creating jobs for the youths through the Anambra Small Business Agency which trains and raise take off capital for youths.

The member representing Nnewi North , South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Dr Chris Azubogwu said that those of them at the Senate and House of Representatives were doing their best to give ndi Anambra quality representation as they were aware that the state government alone cannot cater for the well being of the state.

In a sermon, a guest preacher Who is the Registra of Trinity Theology Collage , Umuahia Venerable Cyprian Alokwu ,whose sermon centered on the theme of the synod congratulated the Bishop of the Diocese for redirecting the church to its role by siting Pentecost university, as according to him, the church should do more in its role of propagating peace, good morals and unity of all.

Venerable Alokwu noted that the synod will come up with ways to bring peace back into the society even as he prayed for the gift of the holy spirit especially as the Sunday was Pentecost day.

Highpoint on the event were parade by the boys brigade, presentation of the history of the church by the choir, as well as cutting of the synod cake.
