Two Anambra Commissioners Emerge Members Of South East Economic Team



A ten-man Economic Team of the SouthEast Governors Forum is to be inaugurated next month in Enugu. 

The Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Ebonyi state, Dr Dave Umahi disclosed this while addressing newsmen after a meeting of the forum held yesterday at the Enugu State Government House, Enugu.

The ten-man economic team whose terms of reference was to drive the economic integration agenda of the Forum, had its members drawn, two from each of the five states of the SouthEast.

The Anambra State's Commissioners for Finance, Mr Ifeatu Onejeme and his Economic Planning/Budget counterpart, Mr Mark Okoye comprised the Anambra delegates in the team.

According to Gov Umahi, major aspects of the SouthEast economic integration agenda which the Forum has already referred to the team for onward action include Power issues, the idea of Rail projects and building of seaport, commerce and industrialization.

He revealed that the team has been directed to proceed on preliminary studies on these areas and to take submissions from consultants so as to produce a comprehensive report for presentation to the Forum in their next meeting.

Gov Umahi also said the Forum through the team, was interfacing with the Bank of Agriculture (BOA) which handles the "Anchor Borrowers" programme of the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN )to ensure that the SouthEast benefits it's due ration from the scheme.

The SouthEast Governors Forum Chairman stated also that the meeting deliberated on final moves towards proper setting up of its secretariat at  Enugu with the necessary manpower for better coordination, efficiency and effectiveness in addressing the numerous socio-economic and developmental challenges of the Zone.

Commending the Governors for their interest and commitment towards improving the welfare of people of SouthEast, Umahi appealed to the people to show them solidarity and support to enable them realize their lofty vision for the zone.

In attendance at the meeting were Govs Willie Obiano(Anambra State), Dr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu State)and Dr Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State while Gov Rochas Okorocha of Imo State was represented by his deputy, Prince Eze Madumere.
