NIPSS Team Commends Anambra On Agricultural Innovations


Members of the Senior Executive Course thirty-nine, from the National Institute of Policy and Strategic studies Kuru near Jos, are currently in the state for study and research on the extent of usage of science, technology and Innovations in agriculture and agro allied industries.

The group yesterday had an interaction with key Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the state, at the Conference Hall of the Government House Awka.

Giving an overview of the activities of Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, ANSIPPA, to the development of agriculture in Anambra State, the Executive Director of the Agency, Dr Amobi Ifediora, explained that as a one stop shop the Agency is playing a major role in marketing the state on her business potential.

In their separate presentations, the Commissioner for Education Professor Kate Omenugha and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Fishery, Mr Emeka Iloghalu, explained that government has introduced a programme called Education for Employment in secondary school curriculum, as a way of changing the Psyche of the people towards agriculture.

Also, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanization, Processing and Export, Mr Leo Imoka exposed the group to the activities of the Ministry in terms of using science, technology and innovations to form a data base of all farmers in the state according to their areas of specialization.

The group later visited the control room of the Ministry where they saw for themselves how science, technology and innovations are being put to use.

At the end of the interactive sessions, the leader of the team Dr Emmanuel Mamman expressed happiness with the level of usage and advancement in science, technology and innovations in the development of agriculture and however added, that they will make recommendations to the Presidency in their report on the areas where federal attention is needed to consolidate on what the state had already started.
