We Have Attained Success In Education - Gov Obinao

Gov Willie Obiano has said that his administration has
achieved significant success in its pursuit of quality education as envisioned
by the founding fathers of Anambra State.
The governor made this known in his remarks during the 8th
Convocation ceremony of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, yesterday.
The convocation ceremony which held at the Igbariam campus
of the University, saw the conferment of honorary degrees on the former
Governor of Old Anambra, Senator Jim Nwobodo, former Deputy-governor of the
Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof Kingsley Muoghalu and Sir Chike Onyejekwe.
In his address Gov Obiano pointed out that his
administration has made huge investments in education in the state, having
renovated above 1400 classroom blocks, upgrading of 62 Science laboratories,
prompt payment of teachers' salaries and additional incentive to teachers
posted to hard-to-reach areas and those handling core subjects, and support to
Mission schools among others.
According to him, his administration has shown it's
commitment to improving the quality of education offered in the university by
doubling her subvention. He said that as the resources improves the State
government would sustain its support to ensure that the University lives up to
the integrity and patriotism of the man whom it was named after.
While calling on the new graduates to endeavor to engage
themselves in positive ventures that would promote their Alma mater, the
governor also charged the staff and management to intensify efforts at
maintaining high educational standards.
Earlier, the institution's Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of
the University's Governing Council, Arch Ikebueze Chendo said the council would
soon unveil a strategic plan to position the University towards enterprise and
entrepreneurship in ensuring the University exploits the opportunities that
abound with the private sector collaboration for its transformation.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Fidelis Okafor
noted that the institution is expanding on all frontiers towards becoming a
major centre of teaching and learning in Arts and Sciences, adding that it was
already taking the lead in restoring stable academic calendar in the

of provision of basic amenities, infrastructural upgrade and increase in
subvention and sought the assistance of the state government towards addressing
the staff deficit challenge facing the institution now.
A total of 2851 graduated with Bachelors' Degrees, post
graduate Diploma, Master's Degrees and Doctorate Degrees also participated in
the convocation ceremony which attracted dignitaries from within and outside
the state notable of whom was the Governor of Enugu State, Dr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
