The State Government is to assist Ethiopian Airlines secure a permit to operate cargo schedules at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
Governor Willie Obiano who disclosed this when he received a delegation from the Airline at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia, said the effort is to reduce the cost of moving goods from very far Airports for traders in the State and the South East.
Governor Obiano also sought the partnership of the Airline in the Construction of the Umueri Cargo Airport on a Build, Operate and Transfer arrangement.
Describing Anambra as the nerve centre of business and commercial activities in the Country, Governor Obiano said his government will continue to pursue programmes that will assist the traders maximize their profits.
He urged the Airline to set up a ticketing Office at the Onitsha Main Market, adding that due to the heavy commercial activities in the state, his government will be willing to partner the Airline in constructing a helipad to shuttle passengers from the state to Enugu Airport.
The Traffic and Sales Manager of the Airline in Nigeria, Mr Theodross Selasia while noting that they were on a tour of the South-East, said the visit to the State is to seek the partnership of its Government and international businessmen in a mutual flight service business.
In their separate remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu and the Chief of Staff, Professor Joe Asike urged the Airline as an International flight operator to upgrade the standard of their services to the people, adding that the new Agric Produce Export initiative which the state Government is exploring presents a viable business opportunity for the airline.
